Location: Nepal Countrywide
Event: COVID-19 Response
On June 19, the Government of Nepal’s Ministry of Home Affairs issued a ban, effective immediately, on all non-emergency civilian movement in Nepal each night from 2200 hours to 0500 hours. Only emergency movements will be permitted by police checkpoints during this time. This ban is applicable for all modes of conveyance as well as pedestrians. The Embassy has strongly advised all U.S. mission personnel to avoid any non-emergency movements during these curfew hours.
With recent protest activity in Kathmandu, U.S. citizens are reminded that it is illegal under Nepal’s constitution for foreign residents to protest against policies of the Government of Nepal. Those caught protesting could be subject to arrest, a fine, and possible deportation. U.S. citizens should follow local media and avoid all protest areas.
