Renew an Adult Passport

Please note: U.S. law now requires you to provide your or your child’s Social Security number, if you have one, when you apply for a U.S. passport or renewal of a U.S. passport. If you submit an application for a U.S. passport and do not provide a Social Security number, if you have one, you will encounter a delay with the processing and/or denial of your passport application. Contact the Social Security Administration for information about obtaining a new or replacement Social Security number and card. You may also contact your closest Social Security office. For residents of Nepal, the closest Social Security office is located in Manila, Philippines.

If your passport has expired or is about to expire, we strongly recommend you act now to renew your passport. You must make an appointment. Every American should have valid proof of his or her citizenship at all times, as well as a valid travel document, in case emergency travel is required.

Americans who have obtained a new passport from the U.S. Embassy in Kathmandu must have their valid Nepali visa transferred from their previous passport to the new passport through the Government of Nepal Department of Immigration in Kathmandu. For more information about Nepalese immigration rules and regulations, please refer to the Government of Nepal’s Department of Immigration website.
